GOOD STRESS – BAD STRESS

Can Stress be good? Is all Stress bad?

One of the most important things to understand about stress is – it is always as good or as bad as you believe it to be!

It is just as important to understand that IF you believe the stress to be bad it WILL harm your health more!!!

STRESS

One idea, three words:

To complete the definition, when Selye coined “Stress” he coined three words:

1. Stress – the biological term which has three symptoms: enlargement of the adrenals, a shrinking of the thymus gland and lymph system and ulceration of the intestinal lining

2. Dis-stress – pertaining to the negative aspects of stress

3. Eu-stress – pertaining to the positive aspects of stress

Can Stress be good? Is all Stress bad?

When a child starts crying during his or her birthday party very often it is because such a good thing can be overwhelming. This is an expression of stress. It is an obvious case of good stress as there is no reason for us to see anything else in it.

And good CAN be too much… There are plenty of stories about people who got a heart attack when they learned they won the greatest prize in a lottery…

These two examples are easy.

Accepting that all stress can be perceived as good – now THAT is a challenge.

Here are two wonderful stories that help illustrate this:

The first one is about how flexible reality is and the value of an open mind – translating reality for the better is a part of reality itself as this story illustrates so wonderfully

The Second story is all about how your perspective and attitude can effect how you feel a act in your life.
